The Bribie Island Christmas Lights Boat Parade this year celebrates its 11th year of bringing joy around the canals of Pacific Harbour. On Saturday, 11 December, boaties will light up the canals with their decorated boats and jet skis for thousands of residents and visitors to watch and enjoy.
This annual event is organised by local volunteers from the Pacific Harbour Residential Community Association (PHRCA) and participating boats are guided safely through the canals with the very generous help of the Bribie Island Volunteer Marine Rescue (VMR).
“The boat parade brings joy to thousands of residents,” says Ritchie Bloomfield from the PHRCA, “and this year’s event has been made possible thanks to our generous community sponsors including Bribie Realty, Brisbane Yamaha and Ali King MP.”
This year’s parade will see and hear a local choir offering their very best singing voices as they carol their way through the canals. “We are excited to announce this new addition to the parade this year”, explains Ritchie, “and we are lucky to have had Parker Montague, General Manager from River to Bay cruises, kindly offer to supply a boat and driver to chauffeur our local songsters in the parade.”
Vessels of all shapes and sizes are invited to dress up their boats and join in the fun for the chance to win some great cash prizes, including a First Prize of $1000. Entry is free, with the first 30 entrants each receiving a free goody bag. Participants will gather around the main canal adjacent to the Pacific Harbour Marina from 6:30pm for a 7:00pm start. There are also plenty of public viewing areas this year from which residents will be able to watch the parade, including Kakadu Beach, Sea Eagle Park, Sunset Park and the Harbourside Marina.
The following week, Santa and his helpers from VMR Bribie will also travel the canals on Sunday 19 December between 1.30pm and 5.00pm to hand out lolly bags to the waiting children - and maybe a Schmacko or two for their dogs. Just listen out for Santa’s bell.
