Simone Wilson MP, Member for Pumicestone, hailed last month’s announcement by the Federal Government of a guaranteed $20 million for upgrades to Bribie Island Road as a game changer for local residents.
“This is fantastic for all people living in the Pumicestone Electorate. This is something I have been fighting for since being elected as I know just how important these vital upgrades are for residents who have to deal with the congestion and changing road conditions on a daily basis.” Ms Wilson said.
Joining the Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull, Deputy Prime Minister Michael McCormack and LNP Candidate for Longman Trevor Ruthenberg for their announcement, Ms Wilson said upgrades to Bribie Island Road have been a long time coming.
“Upgrading Bribie Island should have been done years ago but instead Labor have never given this any priority.
“Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk has no excuse not to immediately commence congestion busting and safety improvement works thanks to this funding by the Federal Government.
“$20 million for priority road infrastructure and safety upgrades is now there, ready and waiting. It’s now up to the Premier to put the pedal to the metal and get these upgrades going.
“I will be advocating strongly for the dangerous Old Toorbul Point Road intersection to be on the top of the list for traffic signalling to be installed”. Ms Wilson said.
Ms Wilson said last months commitment will ultimately make travelling safer and easier for all who rely on Bribie Island Road.
“This announcement shows what happens when the LNP at a State and Federal level work together to achieve outcomes that benefit the whole community.” Ms Wilson said.
