Swapping her scissors and blow dryer for the microphone, Bribie Island hairdresser
Sonia Colvin is shaking things up on the domestic violence and elder abuse stage.
“I was appalled at what I was hearing and seeing” says Ms Colvin, Founder of
Hairdressers with Hearts, which was officially launched on Saturday 13th October
2018 at Serenity on the Waterways, 155 Welsby Parade, Bongaree.
Ms Colvin, a hairdresser with her own salon on Bribie Island, decided to take matters
into her own hands and do something positive to help those affected.
“These poor women are craving the kindness of a gentle human touch that a hairdresser
provides as they do their hair. It is like a dam breaks and the story comes flooding out.”
Client revelations led Ms Colvin to do something. That something is the establishment
of Hairdressers with Hearts.
Ms Colvin has a powerful goal of make a difference Australia wide through a proactive
approach against domestic violence and elder abuse.
“Providing appropriate training and resources for hairdressers and barbers to refer
victims who disclose is the key to making a difference at the grass roots level,” says Ms.
