Letter to the Editor TRUST OUR STRAWBERRY FARMERS

There is nothing more devastating to food producers than having their produce tampered with.

During this abominable time of crisis for our local strawberry farmers, there is nothing that lifts their spirits more than having the full support of their community behind them.

During my visits to local farms over the past week, it has been so encouraging to see hundreds of locals out picking their own strawberries - and I know George from Oasis Berries on Bribie Island Road has been so taken by this support.

It is also wonderful to see our local fruitos stocking their shelves with local produce for us all to buy and enjoy.

The message I am sending to residents of Pumicestone is to trust our local strawberry farmers. Whilst they continue to deal with this situation brought upon them, they have taken every measure to ensure the fruit they produce is safe and delicious. We must still cut our strawberries but we must never stop buying them.

The LNP was first to call on the State Government to help our strawberry farmers in this time of need and we will be first to ensure they are not left to deal with this crisis alone.

I have been posting some strawberry inspired recipes on my Facebook page (@SimoneWilsonMP), including delicious Strawberry and White Chocolate Mousse and a very refreshing Strawberry Lemonade. Why not check these out and share your recipes too.

Thank you Pumicestone for standing alongside our strawberry farmers in their time of need. Let’s continue to show them how much we care.

SIMONE WILSON MP,

State Member for Pumicestone
