State Member for Pumicestone, Simone Wilson welcomed the Shadow Minister for Tourism, David Crisafulli to the Pumicestone Electorate today and took the opportunity to showcase the Abbey Museum of Art and Archaeology.
“The Abbey Museum is an icon in our electorate where for the past 30 years thousands flock to enjoy the largest Medieval Festival in the Southern Hemisphere,” Ms Wilson said.
Ms Wilson said that plans are underway for the Abbey Museum to become a major tourist destination.
“I am incredibly pleased to support the Abbey Museum’s current plans to create what will be a unique living history museum set in the 14th Century for all to enjoy”
“Visitors will be able to step back in time to discover what life was like for those in medieval times”.
Mr Crisafulli was impressed with the level of detail in the plans and believes this is set to become a tourist destination of international status.
“What I have seen today during my visit is nothing short of inspiring,” Mr Crisafulli said
“This will be an amazing opportunity for people to comprehend the incredible grandeur of the medieval era and will become a most popular destination for visitors from far and wide”.
Mr Paul Garcia, Chairman of the Abbey Museum said that he is grateful for the support of the Moreton Bay Regional Council who have provided funding for the first phase of a feasibility study.
“We are thrilled to be partnering with the Griffith University on the study and it is fantastic to receive the support of our local Member and Mr Crisafulli” Mr Garcia said.
