Sunshine Coast family-owned bakery Beefy’s has led Queensland to victory in this year’s hotly contested Pie of Origin.
The Pie of Origin is an annual contest that sees Queensland’s Beefy’s go head to head against NSW’s Glenorie Bakery to raise funds for charity during the State of Origin series. The state that raises the most funds claims the Pie of Origin title.
This year Beefy’s raised $21,061 compared to Glenore Bakery’s $16,700. Congratulations Beefy’s and Queensland.
Of course, the real winners are the kids with almost $38,000 raised this year for the children’s hospitals in each state, and over $83,000 raised for the Queensland Children’s Hospital by Beefy’s and Queenslanders over the past five years.
Origin Great Kerrod Walters backed Queensland to come away with the Pie of Origin win, and he couldn’t be prouder with the result.
“It’s my absolute pleasure to be part of this fundraising campaign and to be helping the Queensland Children’s Hospital in this way,” says Kerrod.
“Beefy’s put in a big effort with their limited-edition BIG Queenslander Pie – but the win was only possible thanks to all of the loyal Queenslanders who contributed to the fundraising total through their purchases and donations.”
Beefy’s will visit the Queensland Children’s Hospital in early August to present the cheque and to put some smiles on many kids faces.
