Due to the COVID19 pandemic, our neighbourhood centre activities involving face-to-face contact are suspended. We are still available for phone calls from everyone who needs help with an information and referral issue or just to talk with us, from 9 am – 3 pm, Monday – Thursday. We will always try to help you find the right services or other answers for your needs and we are happy to chat if you are in need of a friendly voice. Other services still operating:
Our Emergency Relief service (funded by the Australian Government) helps people in financial crises in the Bribie Island, Sandstone Point, Ningi and Godwin Beach areas who are in need of food or other basic help. We have been busy helping people who have never had to deal with having no job before to set up their MyGov accounts and access their super’ or apply for other assistances.
Our Debt Relief Service (including professional financial counselling) provides practical support, advocacy and information to local people in financial and related crises. If financial worries are causing you stress, you do not need to sign up to an expensive budgeting service – if you need to get on top of your finances, our free professional Debt Relief Service can help you to deal with debt, learn about bill paying options and reach your financial goals.
Our free professional telephone COUNSELLING services can help family members to work out how they want to deal with the challenges of parenting, relationships and other stresses that we all face from time to time.
Do you need professional legal advice? We cannot host the face to face sessions provided by Pine Rivers Community Legal Services, but they are continuing to provide a once a month outreach service via telephone. Phone us and leave your name and phone number and Penny will get back to you. We need your full contact details and the type of legal enquiry when you phone us. Ring between 9am – 3 pm Mon-Thurs to book. If the appointment will be too far away, we can offer information on other avenues of assistance within the Moreton Bay area.
Neighbourhood Harvest: This service, run by volunteers, provides fresh food for people in need. You can phone the Centre on Tuesday mornings to organise when to collect your bag of food. Food distributed depends on what OzHarvest has been able to collect from food venues locally and types and amounts vary from week to week. We also receive assistance from local church groups and community groups for this service.
Unfortunately, our Bargain Shop is closed and we are unable to take donations at present. To assist people in crisis, we are still accepting blankets, jumpers and track suits, sleeping bags and that small tent (that still has all its parts and you never use) that you have taking up space in your garage.
The Neighbourhood Centre is funded by the Queensland Government’s Department of Communities, Disability Services and Seniors. Our Emergency Relief Service and our Family Relationship Service are funded by the Australian Government’s Department of Department of Social Services. Our Counselling and Family Support Service is funded by the Queensland Government’s Department of Child Safety, Youth and Women.
