The driver of a motor vehicle, reportedly stolen from Bribie Island, crashed into two local shops over the Christmas break.
The driver of the vehicle had caused damage to other vehicles and signage on his route from Bribie Island and along Peel Road also causing a number of vehicles to take evasive action.
Onlookers said the driver was driving dangerously and erratically in the carpark before losing control and smashing through one shop window. Reversing from the wreckage he proceeded to drive through the next shop window where his vehicle remained.
Attempting to flee the damage, local witnesses held the driver until Police arrived.
The Beachmere Butchery, whose new shopfront and signage was only installed twelve months ago, and Top 2 Toe Massage Therapy suffered major damage to their premises.
The force of the initial impact was so great it pushed an entire fridge unit to the back of the shop.
Loss of employment and business income will further hurt the business and those employed there, while locals will miss the products and services offered by these dedicated local and long term businesses.
The owners involved are awaiting advice from their insurers before work can begin on repairing the damage and re-opening their businesses.
