It is excellent news! The building of a business case to support the proposal for building a new bridge for Bribie is well underway. Now, it is the community’s turn to have their say and show their support for a new bridge, why they need it and most importantly, what they want.
The Department of Transport and Roads (TMR) is undertaking a community survey to form an essential part of the business case and is expected to be completed by early 2024 with the concept design work taking place in 2023. Part of the planning includes deciding what the new bridge will look like and what to do with the old bridge. Should we keep it and add an additional two-lane bridge with improved pedestrian and bike access or put a new four-lane bridge in place?
The downside is that if we keep the existing bridge it will have to be replaced sometime in the future. The ultimate answer is likely to be driven by the many technical considerations and assessments currently being made to assist with planning. The government has not yet committed to upgrading or building a new bridge. Completing a business case is the next step in seeking funding and prioritising the project against other State Transport Infrastructure Projects.
Have your say and show your support for a new bridge
The project team want to hear your comments and ideas, both positive and negative, regarding the bridge. You may have concerns over wildlife, disability access or be worried about changes to the road. You may have ideas about the inclusion of indigenous culture or the effects on businesses, issues regarding pedestrian access to and across the bridge, continued fishing access or even the height of a possible new bridge. So many aspects to consider.
Completing the survey is your one chance to have your say, so give it a go, it is easy. It took me 5-10 minutes at most.
