The last quarter of the year has been a busy period for The Bribie Island Probus Club, with a major Brisbane tour and participation in several local activities. A lunch at Birches Mt Mee restaurant in July kicked off the quarter, followed by an August morning tea at the Community Arts Centre, a September TocH BBQ and a Special Morning Tea at the BIRV and a Probus Day picnic at Banksia Beach, both in October.
By far the most significant of our club’s activities was a September trip to view GOMA’s exhibition of the European masterpieces on loan from the New York Metropolitan Museum of Art, a once in a lifetime opportunity to appreciate pieces by the world’s greatest artists. We also took the opportunity of being in the city to view the eye-opening Cross River Rail Experience Centre in Elizabeth Street, a must for those interested in this mammoth project.
Our club also participated in Federal MP Terry Young’s EXPO held at Woorim Community Hall on Wednesday 17 November, which attracted almost sixty exhibitors. Many attendees showed interest in the social aspects of our club, which we hope will result in some new members. The highlight of the day occurred when our newsletter editor, Gloria Gordon, won the raffle drawn by Terry.
