How on Earth is it school holiday time again already? It feels like the kids just went back to school and here we are staring down the barrel of another two weeks of school-free time. Never fear, if you’re in need of a few different ideas to help fill the time and keep the kids busy these school holidays, you have come to the right place!
Beach time…finally! Okay so you may have teetered towards the water’s edge in recent months but providing the weather is finally on our side and warming up a little, it’ll provide the best opportunity to hit the waves.
Monster Jump at Sandstone Point Hotel
This is one for the little kids and the big kids at heart when the mobile inflatable obstacle course jumps into the hotel for the school holidays from September 17 – October 2. There is more than 280m of fun featuring 30 different obstacle adventures to choose from as well as two inflatable waterslides in the ‘Splash Zone’. Tickets are $35 for a two-hour pass with free entry for spectators and it’s highly recommended you pre-purchase to avoid disappointment.

Kids Dig It! Egyptian Family Fun Take part in Archaeological Digs, paint an Egyptian sarcophagus, try your hand at shooting a long/recurve bow and learn the Ancient Egyptian process to mummify a body. Visit the local library
Whether it’s a rainy day or you’re just looking for something peaceful and quiet to do, check out the local library either here on the Island or further afield.
Check out the local museums - Bribie Island Seaside Museum - Check out The Keeper: collectors and their collections which is on until November. - Pine Rivers Heritage Museum - They have an exhibition called Shadow Makers which is on until October 23 where you can explore the magic of light and shadow. - Redcliffe Museum – drop in and see It’s Personal, an exhibition covering the world of intimate objects and personal effects where nothing is taboo.
A day trip into the city Make a day of it and trek into town for a big city adventure. Whether it’s for shopping, sightseeing or to check out the Botanic Gardens, City Hall or even head across the river to Southbank, there’s plenty to see and do.
Theme parks/attractions If you feel brave (for the crowds or rides), you can always head to the likes of Aussie World up the coast or head down to the Gold Coast for the usual favourites. Plus there’s also White Ridge Farm, Australia Zoo, Sea Life Sunshine Coast (formerly Underwater World) Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary and Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary to visit, just to name a few.
Park play dates Catch up with friends at a local park. Get the kids outside and pack snacks or a picnic lunch and drag along their bikes or scooters if they need a little more entertainment out in the fresh air.
Movies, Mini Golf and Bowling are always fun options as well!
We know heading out and about isn’t always possible due to work commitments and family budgets, so you can also plan a few activities at home.
Movie days/nights – While they may not be brand new and out at the cinemas, you can always pick a family favourite and settle in with some snacks.
Make you own obstacle course – This one depends on the size of your yard and what objects you have at your disposal to run around and jump over, but it’s a good way to some fun in the yard with the kids.
Go for a bike/scooter ride/walk together.
Do some baking – come up with a fun new recipe.
Do a tidy up/clean up and see what you can donate/give away. So this one may not come across as fun, but the get kids involved and make it a challenge to see who can donate the most!
Whatever you choose to do, remember it’s only for two weeks, even if they feel like the longest two weeks everrrrrrrr!
