Man charged with murder to remain behind bars

A 47-year-old man charged with the murder of Janet Guthrie remains behind bars after his case was heard in the Caboolture Magistrates Court on February 22. Ms Guthrie, 51, was found unresponsive by police in her Bongaree home in Melia Street on Thursday February 16, when they were conducting a welfare check.

The accused was found by police in South Caboolture the following morning. After extensive investigations, the 47-year-old Caboolture man has been charged with murder (domestic violence), enter dwelling with intent, robbery and contravening an order about information necessary to access information stored electronically.

Police also revealed the pair were known to each other and were in a relationship. They described the scene at the Bongaree home as “confronting”. Ms Guthrie’s friends have continued to leave tributes on a GoFundMe page organised to support her family.

Police continue to appeal for anyone with information which may assist investigations, including anyone with CCTV or dashcam footage of a white 200 Isuzu NKR 200 truck with QLD registration 170ZBA, to contact police. The vehicle was seen at Bongaree around 5pm on February 15 and later at the Aldi store on the Island. Later in the evening it travelled to the mainland and was sighted at Beachmere and Margate.

The investigation continues.
