Men’s Table – Men serving men

By Alistair Gray

Hey, guys, would you like a night off? No dishes to wash, nappies to change, stories to read, just some ‘you’ time. Come and join us at the Men’s Table.

Make some new friends, have a beer, enjoy some dinner and a yarn with some blokes just like you. Sometimes, it’s hard getting up, travelling to work in the early hours, having your head down all day and then coming home to domestic duties when you are mentally and physically exhausted. You need to be available for the kids, spend time with your partner listening to all the issues that arose during the day, and by the end of the day, there is maybe just a little time left for you. Perhaps you face other challenges. They could be financial struggles, problems at work, relationship issues, or illnesses and feel like you are tied up like a knot, not knowing what to do. You don’t want to burden others with your problems, yet you know you would feel better if you could discuss your situation.

Someone once said, ‘A problem shared is a problem halved’. That is what Men’s Table is about, creating an opportunity for men to help men. Building bonds of friendship and trust to help each other, listen and share in confidence, and show empathy, kindness, and support.

On Bribie, a few guys are quietly establishing the first Men’s Table in Queensland. There are over sixty tables in other parts of Australia. Each table is limited to twelve. On Bribie, they meet once a month on the third Wednesday at 6 pm for dinner at the RSL. Then follow it with a more structured meeting. There are no age limits. If you are interested, you are welcome to attend.

If you would like to attend a meeting, please contact Craig Waters 0432 669 233 or Loris Rubin 0418 300 529.
