Miranda Murray and Eileen Tiller, the Founders of Mojo Mama at the Bribie Island Art Centre.
This is a call out to all the young mums out there looking to connect with other mums on the Island and nearby. Often mums are so tied up in the day-to-day chores of looking after their kids that they struggle to get some “me” time to look after themselves and connect with other women to perhaps plan their future, set up a small business or start taking steps to return to work. Or maybe they simply want someone to chat with, share life’s challenges and have social outings. The good news is that Mojo Mama has held its first few meetings on the Island and is growing fast as it meets the insatiable needs of local mums.
I was thrilled to meet with Miranda Murray and Eileen Tiller to learn a little about their new group. Miranda is relatively new to the Island, having come north from Sydney, where she ran women’s circles. Eileen lives in Sandstone Point and was recently a sales consultant in the beauty industry. Both with young children, they understand only too well the demands of motherhood and the need for outside connection.
Mojo Mama’s tagline is “To connect, celebrate and reignite your mojo”. It is appropriate for mums who have been away from the workforce for a few years and want to regain control over their lives and careers.
“We wanted to create a space where mums can come, where they feel safe, where it is a warm and a welcoming environment for them to meet. Initially, very much a focus on connecting with other mums,” Miranda said.
They have held two events so far. One was at the RSL close to the playroom, so kids could attend during the day and another was a girl’s night at a Mexican restaurant, which was kid-free and very popular. They are experimenting with times and activities as they understand what the mums want as the group evolves. They are very protective of what they are creating - a safe place, a place of no judgement, no competition and the welcoming of all emotion and mutual respect with the gradual development of a Bribie Women’s Circle and Business Club.
