One of the weekly regulars outside the Sportsbar at Charlie’s Bribie Island Hotel is an enormous Macaw who sits on his owner’s mobility scooter while his master enjoys some liquid refreshment inside. Many patrons do a double-take at first, thinking it may be a stuffed parrot, before seeing the blink of an eye, a scratch of the head or preening of feathers as the patient bird awaits his master.
This colourful Macaw watches on as the hotel undergoes a major refurbishment. When it reopens at the end of the year it will have a capacity of 250 seated guests in the bistro and 250 seated in the beer garden.
The $2.2 million renovation will see all of the pub’s spaces revitalised, including an indoor bistro, beer garden with a new kids’ play area, sports bar and gaming room. During the first stage, the existing gaming room will remain open, as will the sports bar to serve food and beverage.
When the restaurant is reopened, the menu will focus on value-led classics, featuring pub favourites, seafood specials, and a Salad Bar where guests can serve themselves for free with the purchase of a main meal.
We all look forward to seeing our local Macaw continue to visit the new and improved venue when it opens in the New Year.
