Plant of the Month Elaeocarpus reticulatus - ‘Green Dream’

Elaeocarpus reticulatus - ‘Green Dream’ is a small evergreen tree, native to Australia, is PBR registered and is a new selection of the common - Elaeocarpus reticulatus or Blueberry Ash rainforest tree. Elaeocarpus - ‘Green Dream’ are bred to be smaller, more compact, resilient, and more tolerant to growing in a range of different soil types making it a superb landscape specimen growing to only 3 metres tall and 2 metres wide. Subsequently, ‘Green Dream’ is especially suitable for hedging and is perfect for screening, unlike the traditional -Elaeocarpus reticulatus, or the Elaeocarpus - ‘Prima Donna’, which can reach to 8 metres tall and need the room to grow to look its best in cultivation.

Elaeocarpus reticulatus - ‘Green Dream’ has beautiful fine glossy green leaves which are adorned with the traditional splashes of ash on the leaf margins giving a striking appearance, when the flowers bloom, they are displayed like masses of dainty small petty coats and are white in colour with pink tinges and mildly fragrant. They then produce small blue shiny fruit which are favoured by native birds. These trees grow well on the coast and handle our humidity, they look absolutely gorgeous in my opinion and I am definitely dreaming the green here - hope you are too!
