It will be years in the making but Riverbank locals and other residents in the community will certainly reap the rewards of the finished Riverbank Parkland when the project is complete. Set on 25.2 hectares and spanning 1.5 kilometres across the Caboolture River, the first phase of the $6 million parkland is underway and expected to be finished early next year. Planning has been in progress with Moreton Bay Regional Council and Peet Limited for more than three years with the dirt now being turned over for the important work to begin.
The Riverbank Parkland is a wide, open natural space and with more than one third of the Riverbank community dedicated to open space, families have plenty of room to exercise and make the most of fun outdoor activities. While showcasing extensive planted and natural landscaped areas with river views, the parkland will also offer public car parking spaces and an amenities block.
A prime spot for families to gather and enjoy, the site will have a range of features including walking and cycling tracks with river access, a shaded adventure playground, a basketball half-court, hopscotch, scooter track, barbecue and picnic facilities and an oval with football posts. Mayor Peter Flannery said liveable communities with plenty of well-designed, open spaces were a major factor in why families chose to live in the region. “That’s why council is investing $2 million collected from infrastructure charges towards the first stage of Riverbank Parkland, alongside its record $743 million budget so we can have those better parks, open spaces and services,” Mayor Flannery said. “Families want open space that enhances the local environment, provides quality equipment and connects to community hubs without having to hop in the car.” Division 3 Councillor, Adam Hain, highlighted the importance of the new parkland creating not only a fun space for all members of the family but also for filling the missing link between homes in the area. “We’re watching Caboolture transform into a place that celebrates its environment and getting outdoors, encourages more sustainable modes of transport, and most importantly is a connected community,” Cr Hain said. Phase two of the project is expected to begin in 2023 to 2024.
