By Jan Dwyer, Group Leader, Bribie Island SES
As we are all aware, the Storm Season has arrived, with your Bribie Island SES Group responding to many requests for assistance since October 1. With the Bureau of Meteorology reporting Queenslanders can expect more cyclones, severe storms and flooding through to early 2022, we are asking you all to:
Check your roof, gutters and downpipes.
Identify loose objects in your yard and on your balcony, such as outdoor furniture and toys that will have to be put away or secured if a storm approaches.
Use sandbags to reduce the impact of flooding on your home or business.
Covering the area from Bribie Island to Beachmere and Toorbul and all suburbs along the way, your Bribie Island SES Group has continued to prepare both team members and equipment for the current season. As SES volunteers we undertake temporary emergency measures to make your home and the situation safe. It is important that you contact either your insurance company or a private contractor to make permanent repairs to damage resulting from extreme weather conditions, or to remove any remaining debris.
We are in this together so remember during emergencies, particularly flood and storm related events, there can be delays of hours or days. Be patient, stay calm, and remember the SES personnel responding may also be personally affected by the conditions in your local area.
To request assistance from the SES, call 132 500.
