The Golden Entertainers need more singers

By Alistair Gray

Do you love to sing? Are you one of those happy people who love to sing in the shower or in the car? Perhaps you are a secret closet singer with a happy disposition who just loves music and enjoys belting out a tune. The Golden Entertainers are looking for singers just like you. You don’t need any fancy musical training, just a desire to have fun, meet others, make new friends and enjoy a sing-along together.

With the help of Lions, the Golden Entertainers was formed 33 years ago in 1991. Their concerts never fail to entertain and elate our local Bribie community, our older citizens and residents of local nursing homes. The singers have changed over time, though one of the original members, Betty McEwen, is still singing up a storm. The group currently has about 10 members, much diminished from their heyday. However, the group is rebuilding, with their next St Patrick’s Day-themed concert being held at Seasons Retirement Community. They need your help! So why not give singing a go?

The emphasis on their performances is to have fun and with the use of song sheets there is no expectation to memorise the lyrics. They even have a resident joke teller. Everything is very relaxed and easy. I even had a chance to sing with them on a recent surprise visit as part of pulling together this story. You too, can do this. They are a great bunch of people and you are sure to enjoy yourself. The group welcomes singers of all ages and abilities, rehearsing each Tuesday at 9.55am at the Lions Hall on Sutherland Drive, Bellara.
